The Karlovy Vary Region is Safe – Hepatitis A Cases Are Localized and Do Not Affect Tourists or Spa Guests
Karlovy Vary (21 November 2025) – In response to media reports about an increased incidence of Hepatitis A in the Czech Republic and isolated cases in border districts, the Karlovy Vary Region considers it important to provide context and share accurate, up-to-date information regarding the situation in our area.
In 2025, the Karlovy Vary Region recorded an increased number of Hepatitis A cases. While 100 cases were reported in 2024, the number as of 21 November 2025 is approximately 145. These figures show that although the situation requires heightened attention, it is not dramatic, remains under control, and is being actively managed by the region.
“The Karlovy Vary Regional Administration continuously monitors the situation and is fully prepared to respond to expert recommendations. I would like to reassure the public that the region has well-established procedures in place that have long ensured a safe environment for both residents and visitors. We work closely with public health authorities and other partners, which allows us to implement timely and effective measures. The Karlovy Vary Region remains a safe and reliable place,” said Martin Hurajčík, First Deputy Governor of the Karlovy Vary Region.
Petr Kubis, Deputy Governor responsible for Health, added: “Most cases have clear epidemiological links. This is not a widespread threat to the entire region. Preventive measures are effective and are continuously adapted to the current situation.”
Tourism, Spa Facilities, and Hotels: Fully Operational and Highly Safe
Tourist infrastructure, spa facilities, hotels, and winter resorts remain open, safe, and fully functional. The increase in Hepatitis A cases is not connected to hotels, accommodation providers, or spa establishments in the region.
Jan Kronika, Chairman of the Karlovy Vary Regional Section of the Czech Association of Hotels and Restaurants, states:
“Spa facilities and hotels in the region have long been among the most strictly controlled and professionally operated. Their level of cleanliness and safety exceeds typical accommodation standards. We are closely monitoring the situation and remain in regular contact with public health authorities.”
Andrea Pfeffer Ferklová, Regional Councillor for Tourism, Spa Industry, and UNESCO Monuments, emphasizes:
“We do everything possible to ensure the safety of our guests. Spa facilities and municipalities follow clear and strict hygiene regulations. Visitors do not need to worry that staying in our region would increase the risk of infection. The Karlovy Vary Region remains a fully safe destination offering high-quality services, excellent medical care, and a secure environment for visitors from both the Czech Republic and abroad.”
